The other day we were waiting for a bus where there was a patch of grass nearby for the kids to play on while we waited. Soon, Andy came running up to show us the $5 coin he found in the grass, very happy. Then he let us know how he found it.
"I saw something on the ground and maybe it was chocolate and maybe it was poop. So I picked it up to check it out. It was money!"
Lesson: When you're five years old, it's clearly worth the risk of touching poop if the potential payoff might be free, abandoned-and-left-on-the-ground-and-to-the-elements-for-who-knows-how-long, chocolate.
I actually shudder to think what would have happened if either of his original theories had been correct. I'm just really, really glad it turned out to be a grungy coin.
